Well, other then the manga mentioned under my Takahashi thread, I'm also really into Peach Girl, Kare Kano, and Fruits Basket. I would also suggest Fushugi Yugi and Ceres, as well.
Let's see now, Peach Girl is really kind of a high school soap opera. It's all about Momo and her crazy friend Sae. I think part of the reason I like it so much is because it really Sae really reminds me of a couple of girls in my old high school friendship circle. Plus I love romance and angst, and that's really the basis of Peach Girl. I can't say I really know too much about this series, but I've really liked all of what I've read so far. Currently there are kind of two parts to the series, Peach Girl (which has 8 volumes), and Peach Girl: Change of Heart, which picks up where Peach Girl leaves off (currently 3 volumes are available). Peach Girl is done by Tokyopop and is affordable at only $10 a volume. I'd call it as PG-13, though, as it does really contain some rather adult themes. For more information on it you can check out www.tokyopop.com.
Kare Kano, also known as His and Her Circumstances, is a cute little love story about Yukino Miyazawa, a girl who is really fake but has everyone fooled, and Soichiro Arima, another model student at Yukino's school (he's pretty much the real deal though). Yukino hates Arima because he is the top student in their class, which is the position she expected to hold, Arima, however, is in love with Yukino. After Yukino turns him down and then manages to beat him on the exams, Arima discovers the that Miyazawa is and realizes that he is not being true to himself. After a while they become friends and agree to start being themselves, to never be fake again. And, after a while, Yukino falls in love with Arima and they become a couple. Then a lot of other characters kind of enter the story and it becomes a real web of relationships, but not really anything confusing. Kare Kano is beautiful in the way it's told, really, the style is just beautiful. Also, it is one of the funniest mangas out there. So, if you are looking for a nice high school romance with a lot of drama, a lot of comedy, and the beginings of some angst (keep in mind, I haven't read it all yet, so I don't really know how angsty it gets, but I've heard it gets pretty depressing), you might want to check it out. So far volumes 1-4 have been released, but there's a lot more to come. You can look it up at www.tokyopop.com.
The Fruits Basket manga has yet to be liscenced for release here in the states yet, but the anime has been distributed here and all 4 volumes are available. It's really a great story, it's funny, dramatic, and very suspenseful. I'm going to keep my out for it to come over here, and I'll let you know if I here anything. But, for know, there really isn't much to say about it.
As for Fushigi Yugi and Ceres, both are done by the same artist/writer. I haven't read all of Fushigi Yugi, but I've seen all of the anime, it was good, but not one of my favorites (I'll wait for viz to re-release the manga before I try to finish that, the story is really addictive, but once you know it all, it just doesn't seem worth the $15 a piece to me). As for Ceres, I've only read the first 2 volumes (which I borrowed from a friend). I thought it was pretty good and I'm excited about reading more of it, but I'm kind of broke right now, so it will have to wait until later. Anyway both of these are done by viz, so if you want anymore information just go to www.viz.com.
Well, I guess that just about fits in most of my favorite mangas. I hope that this was useful for some of you.
