Okay, shooting for a first post here. :o I thought that, instead of starting a Harry Potter thread which would likely eventually lead to bloodshed amidst discussions of the events of book five (0.0;; ) I would start a thread about another young adult series I'm quite fond of. I don't know if the series has a name itself (actually, it's just a trilogy) but the three books are as follows: Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen.
Although I have yet to snag a copy of Abhorsen, which is still relatively new, I thoroughly enjoyed Sabriel and Lirael. The books involve a semi-futuristic world in which magic is trying to exist along side what the world would be like today, except things are kind of falling apart. The lead characters are magicians/mages/whatever that are trained to actually go into death - which in these stories is comprised of a series of waterfalls - and to either banish spirits into it or to retrieve souls out of it. It gets much more complicated than that, but I thought I'd give a general run-down. :3
I personally really enjoy these books (at least the first two >.<;;; ) because they take such a different angle on the magical world. Where it's this wonderful, generally light-hearted thing in many other stories, it's a pretty dark place in these books. Not because it just is by nature, but because of the history within the stories. I also really enjoy the concept of death in them, as well as the spirits and creatures involved. :3
Has anyone reading this trilogy completed Abhorsen? Is it as good as the previous two, by any chance?

They sound very interesting. I'll have to look and see if my library has them as I haven't read any of them yet. ^^; I've slacked off in my readng for the last year and a half. I'm a bad bad girl.
