Ender's Game is one of those books I keep coming back to. It has to be my favorite book in the Sci-Fi genre.
Amazingly, I often find this book in the children's section. I've also seen it for sale in the Scholastic book fliers they send home with the children at school. It's amazing that all it takes is the presence of young characters in a book for it to be classified as "children's."
The rest of the series takes such a dramatic turn. Ender's Game, of course, centers around Ender's experiences in Battle School where he meets up with my favorite character- Bean. The other books take a turn towards the moral implications of exterminating an entire species.
Ender's Shadow (retelling Ender's Game through Bean's eyes) was a wonderful addition. It was a welcome change to delve back into the Battle School world.
I just love these books!! Anyone else read them?

I've read the entire series so far. I finished Shadow Puppets about two weeks ago. Ender's Game is definitely the all around best sci-fi book there is. If there's something specific in the genre you like, there's better ones, but for people that don't usually read sci-fi, Ender's Game is THE book to read.
It's strange that it's classified as a children's book. I don't think it's a good book for kids at all. It's a really depressing book, and there's lots of things I don't think kids would quite understand.
Bean's series has been pretty good. Ender's Shadow ranks right up there with Ender's Game. I think Shadow Puppets really falls short of the rest of the series, but it's still worth reading just to keep up with what's going on. But what I really want to see is a continuation of the original series. What the heck happens after Children of the Mind? Arg!

I completely agree! I'd love to see a continuation of the main series!! It kind of leaves you wanting more, doesn't it?
I do agree that as happy as I was to see Shadow Puppets (I actually bought it hardcover..I do that so rarely *L*), it is sad to see what's happening to Bean. Giant Bean just isn't the same as little tiny Bean. It's sad. Shadow Puppets just doesn't have the same energy the other books had.
Ohh, and have you seen Card's site? I went a long time ago and noticed he was working on a screenplay for Ender's Game. Ender's Game on film!? I'm scared! LOL

I heard about the film awhile ago. I agree, that is scary. Reading it is one thing. Watching it is something else. I know I MUST see the movie if it comes out, but I'm so afraid to. I think actually watching the events from the book would be horrifying. And just imagine finding kids to play those parts...would that even be legal?

Exactly. I know for a while Card was posting up the work he had done on the screenplay. I read a bit of it. While at first I was pleased that Card was writing the screenplay himself....I was quickly disappointed. Rather than call them "buggers".... like in the beginning when they're playing "buggers".. He's calling them fornics. He didn't want to be stereotypical. Apparently a number of fans wrote him complaining, but he wrote adamantly on the site that he was not changing his mind.
Anyway, I just looked at his website again today, and it looks like Warner has the screenplay, and they're going to combine Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow.

He didn't want to be stereotypical? But isn't that part of the whole point of the series? The way people thought of them in the first book is supposed to contrast with the way they're thought of in later books. Which is itself supposed to contrast with how they then act when they find out the formics are still alive... Er. Anyways. That's just not right.

That's right. I think the whole thing will lose something if they're not calling them buggers....but that's Card for you *L* It's a shame the screenplay isn't still up there. I was having fun looking at it.
